Refresh

This is day six of our corporate emphasis in seeking the Lord and Refocus during 2021. There are many “Re” words that one can relate to. The word that is on my mind since the fall of 2020 was refresh.

Refresh by definition is to give strength or energy to. As I thought about the need to refresh, it took me back to those hot summer days we all experience, working outside in the heat and humidity. Remember when you took a drink of that ice-cold glass of water to boost your energy to finish the job you started?

That glass of water also represents the living water that God provides us. Every time I open the Bible, there is a refresh to my spirit. God said in Jeremiah 31:25 (NIV), “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.”

What a promise. I will refresh the weary. No matter what is occurring in your life, your family, your workplace, God is there being your provider, your healer, your protector, your comforter. God pours out blessings, and He loves to do it because He loves you. What a refresh knowing God is there for you!

And if you’re in need of this strength and energy, the act of obedience is the starting point to refresh your mind, spirit, and body.

Be obedient and get into the Bible throughout the day to be refreshed. God’s word in Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”. Remember that in the dictionary, strengthen is part of the meaning of refresh—“to give strength.”

God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). The Bible is the truth, so God’s promises in Jeremiah and Isaiah are true for you today. Seeking God, reading the word of God, and communicating with God is the best way to be refreshed. I encourage you to take time throughout the day to let God refresh you just like drinking that glass of ice-cold water. You will be refreshed to finish the job God has designed you to do.

Lord, I pray for each person reading this devotional that they are refreshed. They find their strength and energy in You, Lord. God, if there is any doubt from the reader, allow them to seek your wisdom, allow the correct people to come into their path so they can be encouraged and refreshed in Your ways. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Challenge:

Today, take time throughout your schedule and pray, read a passage, or even reflect on God’s goodness in your life. Do not make your time with Him only a relatively small part of your day, but spend time with Him throughout all your hours, that you may be refreshed in your spirit to do the work He’s called you to do.
