Pastor Siryeya Belton

I don’t know about you, but I love music. I love everything about it. I love the beat, I love the rhythm, and I love the lyrics if I know them—and I make up my own when I don’t.

Not everyone likes a song being remixed, some people think it takes away from the original. I love remixes, because to me I often think they make the song better! No one wants to start amazing and then make it doo doo (that means bad in Siryeyaism). When a good song is remixed well, they take the original and add some bass and maybe a drop, take away a verse or unnecessary lyrics, and maybe add in more vocalists.

“Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them. So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” - ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:14-17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Thinking about the lives of so many people at Dream City, and how they allowed the love from Christ to come into their lives, it’s a great example of a perfect remix.

We were designed with a calling and a purpose to love Jesus and share the good news, and in order to do that, we cannot choose to continue in our old lives when we choose to belong to Christ.

We can accept Jesus in our hearts and claim to be children of God, but then walk around like the abundant life wasn't already paid for, so we have to choose to belong. When we make this choice, our old lives are gone and ohh baby there's a new life that we get to walk in that has just begun!

The key to being remixed is belonging to Christ. He’ll take what you are, and like a good remix, he’ll add some bass, cut out a few unhealthy words and habits, and definitely add some inspired voices into the mix. Even if your original song is good, when we allow the Creator to do what He does best, your song will have new life again!

In 2021, let's choose to belong, let's choose to die to our old lives, because when we do we have a remixed life through Jesus Christ, our creator!

Challenge:

Analyze your life today. Is it old and stale, unchanged despite the life-changing power of Christ you profess? Or maybe you’re finding your life is starting to sound like that same-old song? Jesus Christ renews and remixes us daily when we belong to Him. If you find yourself in this place, turn your heart back toward God and read His word. Journal what He reveals, and then allow yourself to belong to Him, that you’ll experience that new life!
