Fearless Faith
Key Verse
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” -Hebrews 11:1 KJV
What does it mean to have fearless faith?
Have you ever read the Bible and thought, “Wow, I don’t know if I could ever have faith like that”? I will admit I have questioned my own abilities when faced with the awesome feats of the men and women in the Bible. For instance:
Could I build the largest boat made to date to house animals and declare the entire world would soon be destroyed by a flood?
Could I kill a bear, a lion, and/or a giant?
Could I withstand being thrown in a fiery furnace?
Could I walk on water?
Could I stand up to the top political leaders?
Could I trust Jesus to do what He really said He would do?
In it all, I think of this verse in Hebrews. Let’s look at it a little closer and dissect it to reveal the truths hidden in its words.
“Now faith is” this speaks of action. A mentor once told me “laziness never leads to godliness”. True faith does not procrastinate in obedience, but rather it moves. This is a declaration, which sounds the horn to announce, “If you have ever doubted, I am about to show you what faith really is!”
“Substance.” In the Greek this word translates to concrete or absolute confidence. Meaning that faith is 100% confidence or as solid as concrete in. It’s a set standard that can be trusted it is not going anywhere.
“Hoped for.” One could say the things that you would dream of; what are the hidden dreams in your heart God has revealed that you have yet to see? These are the things you have shared with no one but the Lord.
“Evidence” is undeniable proof. It is like our DNA; there is no arguing with evidence.
“Not seen” in the Greek means things that are not perceived, beheld, or looked at.
The writer goes on to tell us “without faith it is impossible to please God”. So this is obviously pretty important.
What I gather from this verse is that fearless faith is when we simply step out in immediate obedience to all Christ ask of us and in the moment He ask. In doing this, we will see the unseen come to life, and our life will look like the Kingdom of Heaven.
The reason we call it fearless faith is because the more you step out in faith, the less you will fear. I call it Godfidence: confidence in God built by walking with Him and seeing His faithfulness. As you see over and over, God is who He says He is and will do everything He has promised He will do.
So today I challenge you faith more and fear less and you to will develop fearless faith.
Our Prayer:
Lord, help us to see that faith is an action and requires us to be fearless, which in turn produces more faith. Like a muscle that grows from work, help us to answer your calling when you call us so that we grow in faith and fearlessness, growing in confidence and adoration of who you are! In Jesus name we pray, amen!
