Fearless Worship
What does fearless worship look like? It sounds like a new concept, but you’ve probably engaged in this kind of worship before.
I believe fearless worship is lifting up a shout of praise in the face of your enemies.
There is a new song that embodies this idea brilliantly. It’s called “Raise a Hallelujah” by Bethel Music.
The song emerged as their church prayed and interceded for a little boy who was life-flighted to the hospital. After a couple weeks, the boy still remained in the hospital, and it looked like he wasn’t going to make it. The songwriter explained that for a brief moment he allowed unbelief to creep into his heart and steal his hope. Then a moment later this melody starting pouring out of him as if he was singing before a Giant of Unbelief.
He began to sing soft, but confident:
I raise a hallelujah in the presence of my enemies
I raise a hallelujah louder than the unbelief
I raise a hallelujah my weapon is my melody
I raise a hallelujah Heaven comes to fight for me
The song continues on, each melody and lyric increasing with confidence and intensity. He describes that as the song rose up, it was as if the giant took notice and regretted the moment he pointed his sword at that child of God. In that moment, the songwriter could see and believe the victory, and the child survived. I encourage you to see the full story below.
I believe this is the kind of worship God is calling us to this year!
We often say at Dream City Church Omaha that being saved doesn’t mean you won’t face adversity, and that often times it places a target on your back, because you are now a threat to the enemy as the Holy Spirit lives within you.
Therefore, it is crucial that we commit to practicing fearless worship this year. I use the word “practice” because bold, confident worship doesn’t come naturally to most of us. Similar to the way this song begins, it starts as a small melody, a small spark of light in the midst of darkness, but as we hear our voice travel through the air and pierce the enemy, we hear the beauty of our praise. We sing again, this time with more confidence, and we can see the atmosphere changing around us.
We can see the joy and peace that rests upon us, and it is in these moments that we are free and loved to worship fearlessly. We care less about the quality of our singing or the way that our words seem crazy and care only about the truth that resides within each words and the peace and joy that fills us each time we release these shouts of praise.
Let us practice fearless worship in response to the giants and enemies we face this year. It may only start as a whisper or a quiet melody, but if you don’t stop, you will hear your praises roar.
Our Prayer:
Father, we adore you, and we chose to focus on you over our disbelief, over the giants of doubt. Help us to worship you fearlessly this year, growing bolder in this adoration and more confident in our belief. In times of doubt, remind us of the joy and peace that comes from the fearless freedom found in worshipping our Father. In your glorious name we pray, amen.
