Restore

Restore - To repair or renovate a building, work of art, vehicle, etc. so as to return it to its original condition.

One thing I love to do is build and create. I enjoy woodworking and fixing things around the house, renovating areas of our home, even restoring something that someone else made. There’s something about the process of restoring something to its original state that brings me a unique satisfaction.

My grandparents have a really old white-oak kitchen table. As far as I can remember, they’ve had that table in their kitchen, and it served its purpose for a long time. Eventually the finish started to wear off, the wood discolored and the table lost its protection. Needless to say it was in need of a restoration.

As I stripped off the old finish, sanded down the top, and added multiple layers of polyurethane, it's original beauty was restored. This old table could have been thrown out or painted over, but instead it was preserved. There are some things worth restoring.

King David might have been the greatest king in Israel’s history, but there was a time when even he needed restoration. After being king for a while, he took his focus off of glorifying God and onto something else, something he never should have had. After David realized his mistake he repented and turned his focus back to God.

“Let my passion for life be restored, tasting joy in every breakthrough you bring to me. Hold me close to you with a willing spirit that obeys whatever you say.” - Psalms‬ ‭51:12‬ ‭TPT‬‬

David understood where his passion and purpose came from. He knew the God who gave could also restore. Have you lost your passion to glorify God? Have you lost focus of your purpose? Is there a broken piece of your relationship with your Father in heaven? Maybe it's a relationship with someone in your life that needs restoration?

Challenge:

Clear away all distractions for five minutes and ask God to reveal what part of your heart or life needs restoration. Don't be ashamed, but ask for forgiveness for losing focus and ask God to start the process of restoring. He won't decline a repentant heart.
