Fearless is not Irresponsible

Key Verse:

“10 Now my beloved ones, I have saved these most important truths for last: Be supernaturally infused with strength through your life-union with the Lord Jesus. Stand victorious with the force of his explosive power flowing in and through you.

11 Put on God’s complete set of armor provided for us, so that you will be protected as you fight against the evil strategies of the accuser!” - Ephesians 6:10-11 TPT

“Be supernaturally infused with strength,” I love the wording of that. I think that’s such a great picture of what being fearless looks like. It doesn’t come from us but from our union with Jesus. And while he promises to go before us and to be with us, there is still a role that we have to play. We still have to live it out, there is still a responsibility on our end. Paul goes on to tell us to “Put on God’s complete set of armor provided for us.” He has provided it, but we must take the time to put it on.

I think sometimes, when we think about being fearless, we think about throwing caution to the wind. That we just charge ahead without giving thought to it, and yet I don’t think that’s what it really means. Paul is very clear in Ephesians 6. Yes we are to stand firm, and yes we will be victorious through Christ, but he also makes it abundantly clear the battle we are in and the steps we must take to ensure we are able to stand against the attack of the enemy. He is calling us to walk fearlessly into battle, but also to make sure we are prepared as well.

Here is what I want you to understand today: the fearless life God is calling us to live doesn’t mean charging ahead while neglecting the responsibilities we have. We move when He tells us to move, but we must make sure our sword is sharp and our armor is in good working order. God didn’t just tell Joshua to be strong and courageous in Joshua 1, but he also told him to meditate on God’s word day and night. To obey everything written in it. Yes we walk forward fearlessly and full of courage, but we must also make sure that as God does his part that we are doing our part as well.

Our Prayer

Father, we come before you ready to be fearless, which means we are ready to accept our part of the responsibility. You have promised the victory, but only when we follow the steps you lay out. Lord, help us to keep our swords sharp by studying your word, and your minds and hearts protected by turning to you or our armor. Amen.
